Damage and Condition
Damage of staff and users
- No human casualties(Now closed in preparation for new building)[1]
- No human casualties reported at Iwanuma City Library (old building), Iwanuma City Library (new building), West annex, and East annex. [2][3][4]
Damage of facility
- Cracks in the entrance ramp, etc., air conditioning equipment suspected trouble[1]
- [Iwanuma City Library(old building)] March 11 earthquake caused cracks in the entrance ramp and parking lot,etc., and shallow cracks in conference room,etc. Some problems occurred in the heating and cooling equipment. Bookshelves fell at several locations.[3]April 11 aftershock expanded the cracks in the entrance ramp and parking lot,etc. Systems are healthy.[4]
- [Iwanuma City Library (new building)] Almost no damage in March 11 earthquake.[3]One unit of fluorescent lights in the archive fell in April 11 aftershock.[4]
- [Iwanuma City Library West Annex] No huge damage reported.[3]
- [Iwanuma City Library East Annex] About 45cm above the floor flooded by the tsunami. Bookshelves fell at several locations. UPS submerged, PCs suspected broken.[3][5]
Damage of exhibitions and collections
- Bookselves fell, mass books fell(completed packing those fallen books by 18 Mar.)[1]
- [Iwanuma City Library(old building)] Many books fell in the March 11 earthquake. However, there is already more than 60,000 documents in boxes in preparation for moving. Currently 23 March, we have nearly completed packing books (with some mix).[3]
- [Iwanuma City Library (new building)] Some books fell in the April 11 aftershock.[4]
- [Iwanuma City Library West Annex] No major damage reported.[3]
- [Iwanuma City Library East Annex] About half of the library materials (1,240 copies) were flooded. Audio-visual materials were all flooded[5]

- Transporting materials to the new building likely to be delayed[1]
- Delays in transporting books and introducing new systems.[3]
Management information
- Officials are engaged in evacuation works,etc., in rotation. Electricity, telephone, and gas has recovered. Water and Net have not recovered.[1]
