saveMLAK: Internet Portal for Museums, Libraries, Archives and Kominkan (MLAK) in Quake-hit Area
In March 11 2011, thousands of people died or missing in the Great East Japan Earthquake. Although the first step should be to search missing people, salvaging the administrative services, such as libraries, archives, museums, community centers, would be also important to assist the disaster survivors. However, it is expected to take many years and costs to restore those services, because many of them were also affected by the earthquakes.
Project saveMLA are gathering and summerizing information on the damage of the people and facilities in the disaster areas and their requests for assistance. We, librarians, curators, archivists and similar jobs, also would like to provide what musems, libraries, archives and kominkans (community centers) can do for them.
